The Political Voice of Young People in Wales
Do you think you have a say on matters which affect you and other young people in Wales? Whatever your personal view or experience, I need your help to try and find out how involved young people in Wales are in the local, regional and national political decision-making process.
I am also trying to find out how much children and young people learn about politics, democracy, government and citizenship at school. Come to think of it, is it even that important that children and young people have a say on such things? Yes, no, don’t really care, whatever! Either way, your view is important.
What do you think about the politicians in your area? Do they engage and communicate in a way you and other young people can understand? Are you involved in local youth forums or other similar activities where you can have your say about local public services?
What do you think about the British Government and Welsh Assembly Governments and their respective Parliament/Assembly? Do you think elected politicians listen to and engage with young people in Wales? Do you think the voting age of young people in the UK should be lowered from 18 to 16?
My research is an opportunity for you to have a say on what you think about some of these things.
As a father of three children aged 10, 11 and 12, I want to find out what political impact the Welsh education system has on the children and young people who are educated in Wales. Does it help them become good citizens with a sound knowledge of our democratic political system?
I also want to find out if things like PSE lessons and participation opportunities such as ‘School Pupil Councils’ and ‘Funky Dragon’ help children and young people educated in Wales understand about democracy, politics and how government works.
So, whether you're a political genius, or think politics is for dummies, I would be very grateful to hear what you think.
Over the coming months, I will be sharing the research statistics on the www.votewales.org.uk research website, and also on Twitter @votewales
Please, if you can, take part in my research and have a say!

Hi Ian,
My name is katie and I am a Development Officer at the Children and Young People's Participation Team in Swansea. I am really interested in the research you are doing and would be happy to meet to discuss some of the opportunities the team provides around the UNCRC and participation for organisations and children and young people, and the work that we do in Swansea. If you are interested please contact me via email a www.shouttawe.editorialteam@gmail.com
