Kid Cudi - Man On The Moon II
Cleveland, Ohio rapper Scott Mescudi, better known as Kid Cudi, has released his second album ’Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager’.
It is distributed through coloabrative lables Dream on, his own record label which is part of Universal Motown and G.O.O.D. Music, which is a small label founded by rapper producer Kanye West, that primarily records Hip-hop and R&B.
Cudi Had originally intended to create a collaborative album with a broad number of musicians from a wide array of genres, but decided to discard this concept for a sequal to his first L.P. the 2009 ‘Man on the Moon: The End of Day’.
Cudi has stated that the concept for ‘End of Day’ had been his personal dreams and nightmears, while ‘Legend of Mr. Rager’ is conceptualised around his perception of his own reality.
Production has drifted towards a slightly more upbeat and dynamic tone, with its handling coming as in the first album predominately from highly acclaimed hip hop producers Emile and No I.D., who is the current president of G.O.O.D Music.
The echoing sound of ‘In My Dreams (Cudder Anthem)’, the first song on ‘Man on the Moon’ is attached to the opening track ’Scott Mescudi Vs. The World’, further clarifying that ‘Legend of Mr. Rager’ is the sequel and natural progression to his first release.
Cudi sets the tone for the rest of the album with this track with guest vocals from Cee-Lo Green, forming a sound very similar to that off his first album one that is peerless and incomparable to any other; with his blend of singrap, that merges singing with rapping over psychedelic stoner hip hop beats.
From start to finish Kid Cudi leads us into a journey of his own consciousness which acts like a hallucinogenic constructing a vision of reality that is literally from another planet.
This is his best work to date, and despite closely proceeding the format of ‘Man on the Moon’, Cudi continues to develop his individual sound and formidable talent.
