In This Section
- Acting involves telling a drama to an audience by pretending to be a character in the story, taking on their personality and mannerisms
- It is a great way to meet new friends and build up confidence
- Actors can work in theatres, on the radio, on television or in films - and most of these people will have started acting in school plays and drama classes. As well as acting at school there are also many clubs and societies in Wales that can help you on your way to becoming an actor
- If you want to be involved with the theatre or television, but don'a t want to act, you can get involved 'behind the scenes'. This includes:
- Set design
- Costume design
- Make-up
- Lighting
- Visuals
- Sound
- A good starting place to get involved behind the scenes is through school, but acting clubs and societies usually teach these skills as well
Going to the theatre
- Even if you don't want to act yourself, going to watch people acting on stage in plays and performances is great fun
- There are many types of performance to see at the theatre, for example:
- Comedies
- Tragedies
- Romances
- Musicals
- Wales has many theatres, including:
- Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff
- The New Theatre, Cardiff
- Clwyd Theatr Cymru, Mold
- Swansea Grand theatre, Swansea
- North Wales Theatre - Llandudno
- There are a number of theatres in Wales that have Welsh language plays and productions
- However there are also many other theatres in Wales, which can be found through the links below, as well as theatre groups which tour the country and do not need large theatres to perform in
