- The aim of the game is to get your bowls as close as possible to a small white ball called a 'jack'
- The jack is placed by the first bowler who rolls it to the other end of the pitch
- The players take turns to bowl. When all the bowls have been played, the direction of play is reversed
- Bowls can be played in singles, pairs, triples and four-player teams
