Notice your employer must give you
- Most workers have the right to be given notice if their employer wants to stop their employment.
- Your legal rights depend on how long you have worked for your employer. You are entitled to:
- One weeks notice when you have been working for your employer for between one month and two years
- One weeks notice for each whole year you have worked, if you have worked for your employer for between two years and twelve years.
- Twelve weeks notice if you have worked for your employer for twelve years or more.
- In addition to these legal rights you may also have further rights provided by your contract of employment.
Notice you must give your employer
- The minimum amount of notice you must give is one week when you've worked for your employer for one month or more.
- If your contract of employment requires you to give more notice than one week then you should give it.
