Stadium Hosts Skills Cymru
Skills Cymru 2010 is an event showcasing various career paths and skills.
Young people and adults will gain experience of certain careers by meeting the employers directly.
This will be beneficial for attendees as they can have any challenging questions about any queries that they may have answered.
Various stands and workshops will be at the event, giving test bites of what the job may include. The event is part of the Welsh Assembly Government's plan to increase a wider variety of skills in Wales, and also increase business success.
What? When? Where?
Skills Cymru is a three-day event on Thursday 16 to Saturday 18 September that will be located in Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium. There will be over 100 exhibitors across six different zones: built environment, cultural and creative arts, engineering, IT and business administration, professional and hospitality services and advice, education and training.
On Thursday and Friday the event is aimed at organised groups attending at designated staggered time slots, allowing enough time for each member to try the interactive features, which run from 9.30am – 3pm.
Saturday will be set out for smaller, less formal groups, and families and individuals, as well as the organised groups which will run from 10am to 4pm.
The event will be very 'hands on' with a lot to do. Whether it be getting a makeover whilst researching a career in beauty therapy, or helping to fix a car while learning about motor mechanics, there will be something for everyone.
Whilst you are there, there will also be a variety of performances, presentations and competitions, most of which can be viewed from either the Skills stage or the Skills theatre.
Competitions
During the final day of Skills Cymru the CLIC Battle Of The Bands (BOTB) will take place, and with over 20,000 people expected to turn up over the three days a large proportion will be present for the final.
The five finalists will play a set in front of an audience of 250 people in the President’s Lounge, while being judged by a panel of industry experts. The winner of that final will then take to the main Skills stage and play a 20-minute gig in front of all of the final day's attendees, as well as winning other prizes such as a week of studio time and gig slots at other CLIC events.
There is another competition called Be The Presenter. For this, you can upload a 60-second video of yourself presenting the news to the Skills Cymru website. The better videos will be chosen to go live, with two winners being decided by a public vote online. The winner will spend the event learning how to be a presenter with a top media production company, while interviewing people and filming the event.
